Thomas van Berckel, a Dutchman, broke the nail of his big toe in August, 2003 on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bangalore. He went to a small local hospital and experienced ‘love at first sight’ with Lalitha, the nurse, who took care of his toe.
They kept contact and six months later, they got married in February 2004. Again six months later, on 8 August, 2004, they founded the Toe to Heart trust in Bangalore, India.
Toe to Heart, with the help of several volunteers and donors, has intensively helped several dozens of children, from 8 to 18 years of age, to obtain their Diploma up to PU-2 level, offering Toe (small tangible help) and Heart (small intangible help). Read more about this Bangalore Project.
